Control and Comfort The comfort in the Volvo XC90 surpasses the ordinary. The view from the driver's seat is commanding, the feeling of control is exceptional. Up to seven people can stretch out in comfort, surrounded by a wealth of thoughtful details.


Two passengers, up to about 160 cm, ride in comfort in the rearmost seats. And to further enhance comfort at the back, the rear of the car can even be fitted with its own air conditioning with adjustable ventilation and heating vents. The powerful climate unit has adjustable ventilation and heating vents for the rear passengers, this enhances comfort and helps keep mist off the side windows.

Passenger Compartment Generous door openings and a convenient entry make it easy to take your place in the Volvo XC90. Innovative vehicle architecture with a compact, transversely installed engine ensures that the interior space is exploited to the maximum. The interior is spacious and quiet. You and your passengers travel in first-class comfort in separate seats, enjoying an unobstructed view. The Volvo XC90 comes with seven seats as standard. Each seat in the second row is individually adjustable for maximum comfort. ECC (Electronic Climate Control) maintains the set temperature no matter how much the outside temperature fluctuates, and it can be set individually for the left and right sides, An advanced air-quality system monitors incoming air to ensure that the air you breathe is as clean as possible.

The Executive Ambience The specially designed seats are upholstered in Executive Soft leather' with contrasting seams and piping. Extra padding contributes to the first-class seating comfort. The leather-trimmed door panels with padded armrests in the front doors heighten the ambience still further. Exclusive nubuck-trimmed floor mats with extra thick pile and hand-ground walnut wood trim are also part of the experience. And for that extra touch of luxury, you can add a built-in refrigerator between the front seats.
The third row of seats is upholstered in Leather without contrasting seams and piping. If you choose the upholstery in Oak/Linen White or Offblack/Linen White, the third row of seats is upholstered in Executive Soft Leather without contrasting seams and piping.
The Executive Entertainment

The RSE (Rear Seat Entertainment) system is designed exclusively for the Volvo XC90 Executive. Just relax in the rear seat and enjoy the latest film on DVD or play an electronic game - both at the same time or one on each 7-inch wide-screen.

You can also hook up other electronic media such as a laptop PC or video camera. The position of the remotely controlled DVD player between the front seats facilitates switching of DVDs or CDs.

Audio reproduction comes courtesy of the car's rear loudspeakers or the RSE system's separate wireless IR headphones. And to adjust the RSE system's screens and switch media, all you have to do is to point with the remote control at the screen you wish to adjust.

Flexibility

Some trips remain a memory for life, others are simply necessary. The Volvo XC90 has what takes for every trip to be as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. An exceptionally inspiring combination of comfort, flexibility and driving pleasure that makes the world that little bit larger and more fun to explore.

When you need, you can quickly fold the seven-seater's rearmost seats down into the load compartment floor. And to create more space for luggage, the second row's two outer seats can slide forward 100 mm, with the middle seat having almost 300 mm of fore-aft movement.

By folding down the middle seat in the second row, you can carry both luggage and passengers without compromising on comfort or safety. And if you choose the five-seat version, you get additional storage space under the load compartment floor.

With all the passenger seats folded down, you get a flat load compartment floor that is no less than 2.9 metres long.

The second row's middle seat in the seven-seat version has an integrated booster cushion that has extra forward adjustment so a child sitting there has better contact with the adults in the front.

And if more space is needed for additional legroom there, all you have to do is lift out the tunnel console's rear section.

The Volvo XC90 offers comprehensive security as standard you - should feel safe and secure even on your way to and from your car. If you want even more protection, however, you can select a range of options that have been developed especially for your Volvo.

Remote-Controlled Alarm

Uses the same remote control as the central locking system. The alarm is triggered if anybody attempts to open the doors, bonnet or tailgate, and it also covers the ignition lock.

A movement sensor reacts to movement inside the car or if a window is broken. If you add a level sensor, the alarm is triggered if the car is lifted, for instance to steal the wheels.

The movement and level sensors can be switched off if necessary. In an emergency, you can activate the alarm manually by pressing the remote control's panic button.
Power-Retractable Door Mirrors with Ground Lighting and Water-Repellent Glass
The mirrors fold in parallel with the car body at the touch of a button - practical when parking in a congested spot. Ground lighting increases security as you approach your car in the dark. It also makes it easier to see puddles and pavement edges when getting into and out of the car. The ground lighting is activated via the remote control.
Laminated Water-Repellent Side Windows Make it more difficult to smash a window. Also help create an even quieter ride. The front side windows feature water repellent glass to improve visibility when driving in rain. WHIPS (Whiplash Protection System) is activated if the car is driven into from behind with sufficient force. A wire-braced frame supports the back and prevents the occupant from being pressed too deeply into the backrest. The entire backrest moves rearward to help prevent the occupant from being thrown forward by the crash forces.
At the same time, the upper part of the backrest moves up and ahead to assist in reducing the strain on the back and neck. Once the entire back has been securely cradled by the backrest, the backrest tips backwards to reduce the force that would otherwise throw the head forward.

Child Safety Seat (3-18 kg) Rearward-facing child safety seat that is fitted using the car's standard safety belts and tensioning straps, for all three rear seats and the front passenger seat if the front passenger airbag has been disabled. Can be supplemented with a softly padded infant insert for the very youngest.

Child Booster Cushion and Adjustable Backrest (15-36 Kg) The removable booster cushion is comfortable to sit on and ensures that the child sits at the right height for the safety belt to be able to do its job properly. The adjustable backrest gives extra support for the back and neck and affords greater protection in a rear-end collision. It can also be reclined for sleeping.

Passenger Airbag Cut-Off Switch In order for a child less than 140 cm tall to ride in the front passenger seat, you can specify your Volvo without a passenger airbag. Alternatively, you can specify a passenger airbag which can be conveniently deactivated or activated as necessary with the help of the ignition key. When the airbag is switched off, you are notified via a message that comes on in the interior rear-view mirror.
Centrally Operated Child Safety Locks Allows you to lock the rear doors from the driver's seat so they cannot be opened from inside - convenient and safe. Integrated Booster Cushion (15-36 Kg)

Helps position the child at the correct height for the safety belt to function effectively. Gives the child excellent comfort with good visibility and generous legroom. Built into the second row of seats, in the middle, and can be easily raised into position by the child him or herself. Option in the five-seat version. In the seven-seater, the integrated booster cushion is fitted as standard and it can also be moved forwards.

Comfort Upholstery and Head Support The integrated booster cushion can be supplemented with comfort upholstery and helps keep the child securely in place even while asleep. Performance The smooth, powerful five- or six-cylinder turbocharged engine responds instantly and provides a turbine-like surge of power across the rev range.

The very latest engine technology with continuously variable valve timing (petrol engine) or common rail direct injection (diesel engine) adds spice to your progress, while keeping fuel consumption under control.


		The responsive Geartronic automatic transmission provides a superbly smooth driving experience with exceptional get-you-there ability, even when the going gets really tough. In Automatic mode, the gearchanges adjust to suit your driving style, and if you want to drive more actively, just shift over to Manual mode.

Engine, Transmission and Chassis

The smooth, powerful six or five-cylinder turbocharged engine is the heart of the driving experience. You have access to the full power potential without pushing the engine, and the response is immediate. Low internal friction and the very latest engine technology featuring electronic engine management and variable valve timing in the petrol engines give both alert performance and modest fuel consumption, while at the same time meeting strict emissions standards.

Six-Cylinder Bi-Turbo Petrol Engine Volvo XC90 T6 (272 bhp) An in-line six-cylinder 2.9-litre petrol engine, remarkably smooth and with overwhelming power. The engine pumps out its full torque potential (380 Nm) from just 1800 revs a minute, and then continues to pull like a turbine across the entire rev range. It propels the Volvo XC90 T6 from 0 to 62 mph in just 9.3 seconds. Dual turbochargers and variable inlet and exhaust valve timing promote superb performance and ensure that the engine meets the strict European 2006 emission requirements. Available with four-speed Geartronic automatic transmission.

Five-Cylinder Turbodiesel Volvo XC90 D5 (163 bhp) Volvo's direct-injected five-cylinder 2.4-litre all-aluminium turbodiesel engine harmonises with the dynamic properties of the Volvo XC90. The very latest diesel engine technology featuring common rail direct injection and variable turbine geometry results in alert response, exceptionally smooth operation, remarkable pulling power and, not least, superior fuel economy. High torque (340 Nm) from just 1750 revs provides excellent performance whatever the driving conditions. Six-Speed Manual Gearbox If you prefer a more active driving style, you will enjoy the smooth and distinct six-speed all-synchromesh manual gearbox. Geartronic Automatic Transmission With Geartronic automatic transmission, you get two gearboxes in one: firstly, an adaptive automatic transmission for relaxed driving, and secondly, a manual gearbox for when you want to drive more actively. In Automatic mode, the transmission registers your driving style and adapts the gearchanging pattern accordingly. The auto transmission is also perfect if you need to get the car to crawl slowly with a heavy load under difficult conditions. In Manual mode, you change up by pushing the gear lever forwards, and down by pulling the lever towards you. ZF Servotronic Speed-Dependent Power Steering Gives you steering that is always optimally matched to suit current driving conditions.
There is added power assistance at low speeds, making the car even lighter and easier to manoeuvre in congested city traffic and when parking. As speed rises, power assistance is successively reduced, thus improving steering precision and enhancing road feedback.
